A good number of you checked in with me as I’ve hardly had any outputs directly from my account post-GWD. Thank you for having me in your thoughts, as well as the love and support. As Instagram only allows so much characters, thought I’d post an update here.
In the last few weeks since coming back from Geneva, for GWD, we’ve been dealing with my wife’s recent cancer diagnosis. As you can imagine, the conversations and atmosphere of having to deal with such a thing can be both difficult and full of negatives. But in the midst of all that, she started saying something that shines a ray of light in otherwise depressing conversations.
“Tell me something good.”
It stops all clinicians in their tracks and makes them consider the situation, to find and highlight positives. We have a pathway that we’ve agreed to follow, and so far Mrs. T has been managing through. Her words have always been part of the guiding principles as we navigate this new norm. Yes, facts are important but we try to focus on actionable positivity to spur us on. As we found out, there is both commonality and uniqueness in everyone’s case. Even similar types can have various sub-types which means treatment and effectiveness is relative – and that is important.
In life, and perhaps indeed in the horological space, sometimes negativity and controversy, masked as fact checking, delivered in a savant-like demeanor can drown-out the good. Information can sometimes be wielded as absolute truth when the reality is some of it is relative. The wealth and breadth of horology lends itself to being a rich and diverse space. Whilst facts are plenty, so are preferences. So find your own good, seek your pathway and let that guide you into positivity and good discourse within the community.
Anyway, whilst you may not see me in events where you’d normally expect me to be, know that I’m still around. I will be popping here at times of brief calm to check-in where I can. Stay positive and celebrate all that is good. So, on that note – Tell me something good?
